Social networking site Out For a Ride lets your track your bike ride and share with friends

I have been on a bit of a health kick lately, and have been riding my bike a lot in the evenings after dinner. It's been great getting back into riding, and I actually still have my original mountain bike from when I was a kid. Still works great, even though it's from the mid 90's. Recently I stumbled across a website called Our For a Ride, which is a social network for cycling enthusiats.

Users of the site are able to enter all of their different bikes and gear into the system, create routes that they take around the city using a slick google maps editor, and also track their rides once they have created a route. This is a pretty great idea, you don't need a speedometer, or a GPS when you are riding, all you do is setup the route you plan to take, go ride the route and time yourself while you are at it. Once you get back, you just add a new ride, select the route you took, enter your time and the website automatically calculates your average speed. Another cool thing about this is on your finished ride page it shows you the map, including the elevation changes. Super cool. One other environmentally friendly feature on this site is that it also calculates your carbon offset that you create when you go for rides.

I have added a few friends on the site, you can view my profile here. Go get an account and add me as a friend!

Byclog iPhone UIAs kind of an aside to this website, I also recently came across the proposed user interface design for a companion iPhone app for Out For a Ride. The UI was designed by a great designer by the name of Chance Graham. You can check out screenshots of the user interface on this webpage.

From what I've gathered I don't think that the iPhone app itself is in production yet, it is still just a concept, however I really hope they find a developer to write it because I would use the heck out of it. I would also probably get an iPhone mount for my bike cause I am a geek like that, it's how I roll.
