Do you love Twitter, facebook, blogging and drinking wine? California’s Sonoma Valley is looking for someone that does. Murphy-Goode Winery’s has created a “Really Goode Job” after they ‘got to thinking about the new age of communications and figured it was a pretty good thing.’ They have started a search for someone social media savvy and wine crazy to join them for six months to report on the lifestyle of Sonoma County Wine Country and blog about what they learn. This dream job will lavish the employee with wine, food, poker games, free accommodation and social media fame, and will pay $10,000 U.S. per month for six months plus travel expenses.
One of the great appeals of Twitter is it's ability to communicate information in a timely manner to the people that are following you. With that in mind, one of the first 'Tweeps' I started to follow was @cnnbrk (the world's leader in online news & information delivery – as the put it) thinking I would always be in the know in terms of the latest news developments. Yet I am continually surprised with the infrequent and non-relevant tweets that this organization sends out.
On average, CNN sends out 1 tweet every 2 days. Hardly enough to stake their claim as the world's leader in online news & information delivery. By contrast, @BreakingNews sends out about a tweet every hour and depending on the story every few minutes if it's developing. Surely, there is enough going on in the world that CNN can have something to broadcast.
In my opinion, CNN is missing a huge opportunity to...
As we put the finishing touches on a brand destination tourism campaign for a client, I thought I would take a few minutes to share a couple of examples that we came across in our research. Take this opinion with the understanding that as an ad-person I can be a bit cynical when I look at others work. But know this, I will be the first to give credit where credit is due (in my opinion of course). Perhaps it’s a little bit of jealously – after all, we haven’t had the privilege of charging $50,000 for a logo design/brand-mark.
Destination Tourism Brand-Mark – Wisconsin Hard to imagine getting paid $50,000 for this logo/slogan. There are just so many things wrong with it. Then again, never being to Wisconsin, maybe it’s right on mark. Nevertheless, it doesn’t make me want to go there. However, I would have if I got the $50 large for the job.
Is there some fundamental difference between gamer skin and human skin? I am aware that gamer skin has been known to occasionally take on a translucent, grub-like pallor, but this product fails to address the only obvious disparity.
I think of myself an imaginative person, and have often predicted initiatives like this with an accuracy so uncanny that men have called it prophetic. I did not foresee gamer razors.
I'm fairly open minded about this kind of thing, and would probably be more receptive had the product offered benefits, above and beyond that of the standard fair, that were relevant to the targeted audience. This razor does not.
Their deeper sin, however, is their inexcusable lack of effort put forth to actually research, and understand the people that they are trying to reach. Do they really think that "gamers" identify with the personalities that were...
My original intention was to include this post as part of my ongoing "WTF" series, but now that I've put a little more thought into it, I've decided to launch a new series of posts which discusses, rants about, and pokes fun of those moments whereby your perception of a brand is completely altered, often for the worse, and usually forever.
"The Sitch":
It's lunchtime in Belle-vegas. Agency life being what it is, sometimes one has to grab lunch on the fly. Unfortunately, lunch on the fly in this end of town means that you only have a few establishments to choose from. Subway, the setting for today's "experience" happens to be one of our usual haunts.
The Cast:
To protect the identities of the parties involved (save for myself) I will not be using their real names. All other information will be presented in a wholly (mostly) accurate fashion.
