Full Circle?

  • Posted by Shane Woodward, on October 26, 2009

For those of you that haven't yet heard, Creed, the band that basically shaped (for good or for ill) the future of mainstream "flyover" rock is back together. Their new album, "Full Circle", is set to be released tomorrow, but we're going to give you a chance to hear the album in full today at 2:00 pm on they inspire live.

Love them or hate them, you can't argue with the fact that Creed has sold more albums and made more money than god. Personally, I liked the raw breakout sound of the band (My Own Prison) much more than any of the over-produced "look we're rich" sounds that came after achieving stardom (Human Clay and afterwards). For most people, that post-success sound is the only Creed they've ever known, an in many cases, the Creed they've learned to hate. When I heard that the album was going to be called "Full Circle", I truly hoped that it meant that they were going...

Friday Fix. September 7-11

  • Posted by Ryan Blaind, on September 11, 2009

This is the first post hopefully in a series that will be coming out each and every friday for the next little while. There will be no structure to these posts, basically just a brain dump of cool things and notable websites that I have come across during the week. So here goes nothing.

9/11 Memorial

911 Memorial

Today over at the Brand New blog, they have written up a post about the new identity for the 9/11 Memorial Site. I am loving the new design as well as the environmental graphics they came up with. Using such Hoefler & Frere-Jones as Gotham and Verlag, they really put this project on mark.

Goodbye and Thank You

  • Posted by Charlotte Barker, on August 28, 2009

Today being my last day at they, I thought I’d reflect on my time here and say thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Everyone at they integrated has been the most wonderfully inspiring group of people to start my career with. I am so grateful to you all for being such incredible mentors and putting up with my constant chatter (hehe).

I got started at they when I completed a four-month internship to conclude my studies at school. Once the internship was over, they gave me the opportunity to represent the company in a social media capacity as the Twintern. Coming into the position neither I nor they knew what to expect as it was sort of an experiment. The plan was to gain awareness via social networks, become familiar with the tools and practices and create a corporate presence online while providing me with valuable experience to take with me and expand on in my career. Prior...

Vanish. Finding Evan Ratliff

  • Posted by Ryan Blaind, on August 18, 2009

Author Evan Ratliff Is on the Lam. Locate Him and Win $5,000.

Vanish

Wired magazine is running one of the coolest promotions that I have seen in a while right now. As of August 15th, Author Evan Ratliff has voluntarily gone missing off the grid. He will be gone for 30 days, and you can win $5,000 cold hard cash if you spot him and snap a picture of him. To me this is great because it ties in a recent article that Ratliff wrote about the subject of disappearing, titled "Gone forever. What does it take to really disappear?". I recommend reading this full article, it's very fascinating.

Starting August 15, I will try to stay hidden for 30 days. Not even my closest friends or my editors will know where I am. I’ll remain in the US and will be online regularly. I will continue to use social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, and I’ll make cell phone calls. I’ll generally stay in the...

Pack your Merkin, Burners, we’re going on a road trip.

Burning Man 2009 - Image 1Whenever I'm planning a summer vacation I always have the Burning Man festival in the back of my mind as a possible destination. Burning Man is an experiment in 'Temporary Community" hosted for a week in Nevada's Black Rock desert. It is a temporary metropolis dedicated to community, art, self-expression, and self-reliance. They depart one week later, having left no trace whatsoever. It's primarily one part arts festival, one part Woodstock, with or without the Peyote. This year's event runs from August 31st through to September 7th.

Burning Man always loses out to something more practical, like the cottage. But how can you not be intrigued by this warning on the official Burning Man website:

"The desert is a place worlds away from that to which most of us are accustomed, and is governed by physical laws that cannot be ignored. You are responsible for your own survival, safety, and...
