Quinte’s Third Tweet-Up

  • Posted by Erin Allen, on February 24, 2010

On February 18th I had the privilege of attending one of Quinte's tweet-ups. This was my first tweet-up and I'm very happy I went. Being new to the twitter world, I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but luckily I had back-up in the form of friends. One was an avid tweeter who seemed to know everyone through twitter, while the other was even newer to twitter than I, and wasn’t following anyone in the room. I sat comfortably in the middle, and although I'd followed some of the people that attended, there were still several that I didn’t know.

Everything at the tweet up ran smoothly, and awkward pauses, which I thought would be abundant, where few and far between. Conversation flowed freely from what was happening in Belleville, to the Olympics, to what so-and-so tweeted. It was a nice change to have full-blown conversations with people whose communication is normally limited to...

Discovering a New Sound Makes our Week

  • Posted by Shawn Patriquin, on December 11, 2009

Anyone that has been to our firm or has tuned in our agency radio station knows that there is always great tunes spinning in the office. Music is a big part of our culture here and we love it when we discover a new artist that provides a unique sound. Recently we discovered two great rockabilly ones that we've been listening to all week.

Kitty, Daisy & Lewis

Kitty, Daisy & Lewis are a three-piece band comprising the teenage siblings of the Durham family. Their music is influenced heavily by R&B, swing, jump blues, country and Western, blues, Hawaiian and rock 'n' roll. They are all multi-instrumentalists playing guitar, piano, banjo, lapsteel guitar, harmonica, double bass, ukulele, drums, trombone, xylophone and accordion between them.

Imelda May

Having fallen in love with rockabilly and the blues as a nine-year-old in Dublin – the only kid in her class who wasn’t into...

Also, stay tuned to our blog, as we will be doing an indepth tour of the SkinBeautiful control panel, to illustrate how easy we made it for our client to manage their content. Also included in this future post will be a detailed breakdown on how we customized ExpressionEngine, as well as what add-ons were employed to create specific functionality for those who want to know.

Bad creative or bad brief? I blame the client.

  • Posted by Brian Freeman, on October 28, 2009

Good creative work deserves to recognized. At the very least, work that stands out amidst the clutter should be appreciated. Conversely, bad work should also be called out as such. Often in our industry mediocre work is celebrated as being something more than simply the sum it’s parts, usually by the beige talent that created it in the first place, and it should never see the light of day. Who’s to blame? Sometimes, quite honestly, it’s the client.

Case in point: the recent print campaign currently running for Industrial Alliance, an insurance and financial services behemoth (literally), and the redesign of their corporate logo that preceded the campaign.

But first, a little bit about Industrial Alliance, and the reason for the redesign of their corporate identity, taken from the Insurance Canada website:

“The fifth largest life and health insurance company in Canada,...

Full Circle?

  • Posted by Shane Woodward, on October 26, 2009

For those of you that haven't yet heard, Creed, the band that basically shaped (for good or for ill) the future of mainstream "flyover" rock is back together. Their new album, "Full Circle", is set to be released tomorrow, but we're going to give you a chance to hear the album in full today at 2:00 pm on they inspire live.

Love them or hate them, you can't argue with the fact that Creed has sold more albums and made more money than god. Personally, I liked the raw breakout sound of the band (My Own Prison) much more than any of the over-produced "look we're rich" sounds that came after achieving stardom (Human Clay and afterwards). For most people, that post-success sound is the only Creed they've ever known, an in many cases, the Creed they've learned to hate. When I heard that the album was going to be called "Full Circle", I truly hoped that it meant that they were going...
